LOW PRESSURE SODIUM LAMPS

Click for larger imageThe arc tube in a Low Pressure Sodium Lamp contains a mixture of neon and argon gases, plus sodium metal. Initially, the arc discharge passes through the neon and argon. As the sodium metal heats up and vaporizes, the characteristic yellow/amber color of sodium becomes visible.
