A small grocery store saved $654 by replacing its five 500 watt quartz lamps
lighting the parking lot with one 400-watt high pressure sodium lamp. Those
five quartz lights were consuming $803 worth of energy a year. The single
400-watt high pressure sodium lamp will last up to 12 times longer and save additional
money in annual lamp replacement costs while providing adequate lighting.
Replacement will also save 8,171 kWh a year. The necessary fixture and mounting
bracket could be purchased for about $300 and installed for about $90.
