An Energy Management System (EMS) can control lighting as well as the HVAC
(heating, ventilating, and air conditioning), machines and equipment for one or
more areas or for an entire building. But, installing a full-fledged EMS for
lighting control alone is not often done. However, intermediate systems which are
more elaborate than simple timers but less expensive than an EMS may be
warranted. For example, an office building might be programmed for high light levels
during work hours, than to rotate moderately high light levels through the
building for the maintenance crew.
